Adults with poor reading skills cannot read their children bedtime stories, complete job applications or write letters to friends. Adults with poor reading skills are severely handicapped in a highly technological, literate world.
But they don't have to stay that way. They can receive one-on-one help from a Literacy Action Corps tutor through the Laubach Way to Reading.
Dr. Frank C. Laubach designed this easy-to-use reading method specifically for teaching adults. The Laubach Way to Reading uses a phonetic approach as well as the adult's vocabulary and experience.
Learning charts serve as memory aids. They consist of pictures related to the letters or words being taught. A story accompanies each lesson chart. Students begin to read at the first lesson.
Each reading lesson is reinforced by a writing lesson. By the end of the fourth book series, students can read and write at the fifth grade level.
